Abstract
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the skin prick test results of patients admitted with the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis in the Trabzon-Of region and to compare in terms of age, sex, symptoms, complaint times, family history, severity, and duration.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 284 patients (81 males, 203 females; mean age: 35±16 years; range, 10 to 78 years) who underwent a skin prick test in 2020. The patients were examined in terms of age, sex, symptoms, complaint times, allergy history, family history of allergy, severity, and duration of symptoms.
RESULTS: The four most common symptoms were postnasal drip, sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy throat, respectively. Half of the patients had symptoms throughout the year. Ninety-nine patients had moderate/severe persistent allergic rhinitis. The most common allergen was house dust mite.
CONCLUSION: In our study, sensitivity was most frequently to house dust mites. Moderate/severe persistent allergic rhinitis was detected in 34.8% of the patients. These data show parallelism with the literature.
